Stop fake honey!

Food fraud is illegal, sabotages the real thing and is potentially fatal to consumers who have diabetes or other ailments

Under the Agricultural Product Standards Act, 1990 (Act No. 119 of 1990), honey sold in South Africa must meet strict standards that protect consumers and honest producers.

Here’s what the law requires:

✔ Honey must be 100% pure. No sugar syrups, colourants or additives.
✔ Labels must be truthful. No “honey blend” or “honey-based syrup.”
✔ Packaging must not mislead consumers.
✔ Producers, packers and retailers must comply with the Act.
✔ The National Department of Agriculture is authorised to inspect, test and confiscate fake products.

This protects:

🌼 Consumers from harmful and fraudulent products;
🐝 Beekeepers from unfair competition;
🛒 The integrity of our agricultural markets.
